Calahonda is one of the most popular golf centres on the "Costa del Golf". The region became popular during the eighties as a winter golf resort which had as a result that within six years (between 1985 and 1991) a total of 17 new golf courses were built. Back then there were 30 golf courses located on a stretch of 50 miles (about 80 km). Due to the wide range of top notch golf courses in such as small area and of course the warm climate that allows you to play throughout the year; the resort became the most popular destination for Northern European golfers. In 1997 Valderrama was host to the Ryder Cup which gave the area international acknowledgment and recognition and therefore another increase in golf players from around the globe. After the cup the region built even more golf courses as the interest and reservations - especially for the millennium - for golf courses grew significantly.

La Siesta Golf Course - Calahonda

La Siesta Golf Course is within a 5 minute drive from the Mediterranoeo apartments. This short 9 hole par 3 golf course is designed by Enrique Canales and opened in 1990. La Siesta is located north of Calahonda at the Costa del Sol in a private setting (visitors are always welcome). Although La Siesta is a par 3 golf course it seems to play longer. Great views and an undulated course with mature vegetation make La Siesta a pleasant visit. It is located on gentle hills and therefore offers stunning views of the area. The course is surrounded by nature, offers a private atmosphere and welcomes visitors.

Miraflores Golf Course

Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, Miraflores Golf Club has undergone a transformation and offers a real challenge to all levels of golfing ability. Each one of the 18 holes offers a different challenge. The course follows the natural contours of the valley and is much flatter than first appearance suggests.
Only three kilometres from the N340 and the A7 toll road at Calahonda, Miraflores is situated in the very heart of the Costa del Sol's many golf courses.
The Miraflores golf course is located near Mijas Costa and set on gentle hills from which golfers can enjoy the Mediterranean landscape. Nestled within mountains and offering water hazards, this course is definitely a must visit. The course is not the easiest but still very enjoyable for those with a little less experience. Players on a higher level can be guaranteed a challenge!

Cabopino Golf Course

In the Cabopino golf course you will find not only well designed lakes which offer a challenge in accuracy but also wooded and undulated areas. As in most courses in the region you will be able to admire spectacular views from nearly every spot. Traffic and tourism are far away when playing here which makes the course even more attractive. Please note that a buggy is required.

La Cala Golf Course

At the La Cala Resort there is not only a world-class golf course and a club house but also a luxury hotel that offers accommodation to those who wish to step out of the hotel – directly on the golf course. There is a 18 hole golf course fond in the north and in the south of the resort. In addition to the amazing natural surroundings that can be admired golfers will also be able to show their abilities and knowledge.

Quietly set in the hills behind Mijas, 7 kilometres land inwards from the N340 between Marbella and Fuengirola, La Cala Golf & Country Club is a superb Golf Resort covering two 18-hole courses, a short 6-hole par 3 executive course and excellent practice facilities at The Davis Leadbetter Golf Acadamy.

Other facilities like tennis and squash courts, an indoor swimming pool plus sauna make this resort and hotel popular all year-round.

The course was opened in 1991 and designed by Cabell B. Robinson (a protégé of Robert Trent Jones). La Cala Sur and La Cala Norte both are spectacular courses in a heavily undulated area providing magnificent panoramic views.

The mostly large but elevated greens, tricky fairways and many water hazards make it punishing but fair courses. Accuracy from the tee is essential!

Santa Maria Golf Course

Golfers who prefer to play in a more traditional and “old fashioned” club have found the ideal place. The course is set on 1.000 acres and provides 18 holes and a club house in Calahonda. The grounds will soon feature a new real estate development which will be surrounded by pine trees and cork oak woodland.

Opened in 1991 Santa María Golf previously was a 9-hole course designed by Antonio García Garrido. After finishing the second nine, designed by it's own technical staff, 5 years later in 1996 the course is know sited in two valleys in the hills in a surrounding with beautiful views. The course is not too difficult to play with its wide fairways particularly on the back nine.
Besides golf, the Santa María Resort offers other facilities like tennis courts, swimming pools and the Santa María Bowls Club, an official bowls club.
